Loan Periods for Forest Park Public Library Materials
All items can be checked out for 3 weeks. Most items will automatically renew for additional 3 weeks if there is not a hold on the item.
Total of items loaned:
Adults are not limited, except as noted below
Magazines: unlimited except for current issue
DVDs: limited to 10 total at one time
Video Games: limited to four at one time
Restricted use cards for patrons experiencing homelessness are limited to two items at a time with item type restrictions and do not include interlibrary loan privileges.
Library materials will be automatically renewed 3 days before your item is due as long as there is no hold on the item and the item has not reached our maximum renewal limit, twice.
If you have an email address in your account, you will receive an email about the items that were renewed and the new due date. If you do not have an email address in your account, you can check on the due date of items by using the “My Account” tab in the catalog or by contacting the library.
Quarantine of Items
During the pandemic, all items will go through quarantine. This means when they are returned, they will sit for a period of time before staff checks them in. For more details, click here.
NOTE: Items borrowed from other libraries may have different loan periods and quarantine procedures. Due dates will be listed in your account and printed on your receipt.
Fine Free for Now Strategy
During the pandemic, the Library will be operating under a new initiative with SWAN called Fine Free for Now.
- No fines charged for any material that is checked out at the Forest Park Public Library.
- Library cards will be blocked when an item checked out at FPPL is 21 days overdue. When items are checked in, that block is immediately removed.
- All overdue materials will be automatically billed after an item is overdue for 42 days.
- All items will now circulate for 3 weeks and have 2 renewal periods.
- Patrons will receive their first overdue notice at 7 days overdue prior to being blocked at 21 days.
Auto-renewals will function in the same way. If there is a hold on the item, it will not renew.
How long will this last?
We don’t know. At this time we intend to do this for the foreseeable future. When the initiative ends, we will give patrons plenty of warning.
You may still have fines on your account from earlier in the y ear. Log into your account to pay your fines online. If you would like to talk to someone about your fines, call 708-366-7171 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
