Winter Reading Challenge

Exercise that sweet tooth because it’s time for Forest Park Public Library’s Winter Reading Challenge!  Keep track of all the books you read and the Find Your Sweet Spot with featured activities you do in order to win great prizes that will surely satisfy. Don’t know what to read? Just ask one of our librarians, check our staff recommendation selections, or browse our catalog online to find something that will fit your taste.

How does the Winter Reading Challenge work?

1. Sign up for the challenge online or in the library. Pick up your reading kits at the Library beginning January 16.
2. Keep track of every day in February you read for 20 minutes or more in the booklet included in your reading kit. If you are unable to pick up a kit, you can download a digital version here. 
3. Check your email for a chance to win a small prize each week. There will be a trivia question related to our “Find Your Sweet Spot” theme in each email. If you get the answer correct, you’ll be entered in a drawing for a gift card to a local business. To keep it fair, a person can only win once for a weekly prize. We also encourage you to share feedback or what you’re reading for the reading challenge by emailing readingchallenge@fppl.org.
4. Turn in your completed reading log by March 8 to be entered into a drawing for the grand prizes. You can also send us a photo of your completed reading log to readingchallenge@fppl.org.

Do only books related to the theme count?
We develop a special theme each year for our reading challenges, but we want to encourage you to read what you can. If you’re feeling adventurous, check out our on-theme book recommendations below.

Do I have to read for 20 minutes straight?
You can break up the time throughout the day if that’s more convenient.

Do I have to read a physical book?
You can read all types of materials, E-books, audiobooks or magazines all count.

Can I read graphic novels?
Of course! If you like graphic novels, manga or comics, check out the Library’s collection or digital versions on Hoopla.

Does it count if I re-read a book?
Absolutely! Any title you read during February counts.

Do I have to finish a book?
Not at all. If you start a book and it isn’t working for you, there’s no shame in trying something else.

Does reading to my kids count?
Yes, reading to others counts.
