Learn Online

If you've got a computer and an internet connection, you're well on your way to learning a new language.

LiveMocha

Livemocha is the world’s largest online language learning community, fusing award winning coursework with online interaction and practice with native speakers.  You can choose from free basic language courses in 38 languages and more advanced courses -- called "Active Courses" -- in five languages including English, French, Spanish, German and Italian. Real native speakers will read and critique your writing and speaking exercises (microphone and webcam required). And it's not just one way! You can read and critique the work of learners of your native language, earning points towards special rewards.

"Livemocha.com is the best online language program I have seen and used—vastly superior to Rosetta Stone in terms of cost and the variety of language functions it offers."
- Dr. Steven J. Sacco, Professor of French and Italian San Diego State University

Signing Savvy is a sign language dictionary containing over 7000 high resolution videos of American Sign Language (ASL) signs, fingerspelled words, and other common signs. Signing Savvy is an ideal resource to use while you learn sign language. It includes the ability to view large sign videos, build your own word lists and share them with others, create virtual flash cards and quizzes, print signs, build sign phrases, and more. The goal of the site is to provide you with the tools you need to enhance your sign language education and assist you in your day-to-day sign language communication needs. You can even download the app to your mobile phone, and use the phrase-builder to communicate in ASL on the go!

CDs and DVDs

An extensive collection of language CDs and DVDs can help you improve your skills wherever you are. Several kits are audio-only, which makes them perfect for a daily commute. (Use caution if carpooling!)
